Best singer/band of the 1990’s

Well we’ve got two more picks left. Let’s first review numbers 10-3.

10. Barenaked Ladies

9. Fatboy Slim

8. Michael Jackson

7. No Doubt

6. U2

5. Dave Matthews Band

4. Tupac

3. The Notorious B.I.G.

2. Goo Goo Dolls

Great songs from 90’s: Black Balloon, Iris, Slide

Some people may think that all of the Goo Goo Dolls are the same. They are usually a similar kind of singing style, but they are also all tremendous songs. Iris is definitely one of the best songs of all-time let alone the 90’s. I have a feeling that the Goo Goo Dolls will produce some more stellar hits before all is said and done.

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers

Great songs from 90’s: Under the Bridge, Scar Tissue, Otherside, Californication

The Red Hot Chili Peppers may have had their most success in the early 2000’s, producing maybe my favorite song by them in 2006 “Dani California”, but probably their most played song is still “Under the Bridge”. “Californication” is another one of my favorites. I’ve already listed some of their great 90’s hits, but during the 2000’s they’ve sang: By the Way, Can’t Stop, Snow (Hey Oh), and Stadium Arcadium. They also recently released a new album for the first time in around four years. It looks like the Red Hot Chili Peppers are here to stay!

So, what do you think of the top 10? Did I make the right choice with the final two? Are you still fuming that Tupac was ranked worse than Biggie? Let me know what you think!

Best singers and bands of the 90’s

Another 90skidsstuff post, and another top ten list! On this edition, we will rank the best singers/bands of the 1990’s. Will your favorite make the cut? Let’s find out!

10. Barenaked Ladies

Great songs from 90’s: If I had $1000000, It’s All Been Done, One Week

This band always had some very catchy tunes. “If I had $1000000” is a very simple songs, and seems to have a very simple message. It is about what someone would do if they had that much money. Things they would buy include: a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that’s cruel), an exotic pet (like a llama or an emu), and of course… your love. I’m not sure if those would be my purchases, but hey, whatever floats your boat. With “One Week”, that song has one of the best song lyrics of all time when they say “Chickity China the Chinese Chicken, Have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'”. All in all, Barenaked Ladies = good band.

9. Fatboy Slim

Great songs from 90’s: The Rockafeller Skank (Funk Soul Brother), Right Here, Right Now

First of all, with The Rockafeller Skank, I am pretty sure that there are only ten different words to the song. For Right Here, Right Now, the total is at 12 different words. It is pretty amazing that the ultimate repetitive songs can be so good. Fatboy Slim was mostly popular in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, but I would say they are still considered a 90’s band.

8. Michael Jackson

Great songs from the 90’s: Remember the Time, Black or White, Earth Song

Jackson was definitely in the prime of his career during the 1980’s, but how could I not include “The King of Pop”, “MJ” on this list. Unfortunately, the 90’s was when Jackson was first accused of sexual abuse of a child. His face and looks also began to radically and rapidly change. However, looking at music and talent alone, there is no question that Michael Jackson belongs on this list.

7. No Doubt

Great songs from the 90’s:  Don’t Speak, Hey Baby, Just a Girl

No doubt that No Doubt should be on this list. Ha ha, sorry I just had to say that. Gwen Stefani and her band are very unique musicians, with a very interesting type of voice. Stefani has now gone on to a pretty successful solo career, so good for her. I believe that it was my sister who started listening to No Doubt in the 90’s, and I kind of picked up on it, and enjoyed listening to them.

6. U2

Great songs from the 90’s: One, Mysterious Ways

U2 has had so many huge hits. A few in the 80’s, a few in the 2000’s, but one of, if not my favorite song by them, “One” is from 1992. The song has a good message, and Bono is at his absolute best while belting out this tune.

5. Dave Matthews Band

Great songs from the 90’s: Ants Marching, Crash Into Me

Ants Marching is one of the most popular songs by anyone from the entire decade, and with good reason. It took me a long time to actually figure out what the title of the song, but once I knew about “Ants Marching” I could not stop listening to it. The song may be a bit over played, but it sure beats many other songs being played a million times.

For the final four, I am going to divide them into two posts. I will let you know now, that the next two picks include The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac. These were the two greatest rappers of the 90’s, and although many listeners chose one over the other, I am a fan of both. Who should be ranked fourth, and who should be ranked third?
