Well we’ve got two more picks left. Let’s first review numbers 10-3.
10. Barenaked Ladies
9. Fatboy Slim
8. Michael Jackson
7. No Doubt
5. Dave Matthews Band
3. The Notorious B.I.G.
2. Goo Goo Dolls
Great songs from 90’s: Black Balloon, Iris, Slide
Some people may think that all of the Goo Goo Dolls are the same. They are usually a similar kind of singing style, but they are also all tremendous songs. Iris is definitely one of the best songs of all-time let alone the 90’s. I have a feeling that the Goo Goo Dolls will produce some more stellar hits before all is said and done.
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers
Great songs from 90’s: Under the Bridge, Scar Tissue, Otherside, Californication
The Red Hot Chili Peppers may have had their most success in the early 2000’s, producing maybe my favorite song by them in 2006 “Dani California”, but probably their most played song is still “Under the Bridge”. “Californication” is another one of my favorites. I’ve already listed some of their great 90’s hits, but during the 2000’s they’ve sang: By the Way, Can’t Stop, Snow (Hey Oh), and Stadium Arcadium. They also recently released a new album for the first time in around four years. It looks like the Red Hot Chili Peppers are here to stay!
So, what do you think of the top 10? Did I make the right choice with the final two? Are you still fuming that Tupac was ranked worse than Biggie? Let me know what you think!
Here are some of Matt’s favorite players from the 90’s.
Here is what one young man had to say about the comparison between The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur.
Let’s continue the countdown with the two best rappers of the 1990’s, Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.
Great songs from 90’s: Keep Ya Head Up, Dear Mama, Changes
Tupac had so many big hits, and was the second best rapper during a time when rap music was probably in its prime. The day that Shakur was shot, and subsequently died six days later was a very sad day. I was only five years old, so I honestly don’t remember it happening, but little did people know, less than a year later, another amazing musician would be taken from this world way too soon.
3. The Notorious B.I.G.
Great songs from 90’s: Big Poppa, Juicy, Mo Money Mo Problems, Hypnotize
“Biggie Smalls” won two Billboard Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and a Soul Train Music Award. On top of that, he also was nominated for four Grammy Awards. Aside from these accomplishments and accolades, the impact that he had on the rap music world was tremendous. He worked with Lil’ Kim and Junior M.A.F.I.A., and was the one who got Sean Combs’ (P. Diddy, Puff Daddy) career started. His murder is still unsolved, nearly 15 years later, but The Notorious B.I.G. is without a doubt the greatest rapper of the 1990’s.
Stay tuned for the revealing of the top two singers/bands of the 1990’s soon!
